Fins & Finnegans
I just wanted to make quick mention here of two similar projects currently engaged in by a couple of my friends. Please consider visiting their respective sites and take some time to admire their efforts. Both of these gentlemen have been graciously encouraging of my own work; I'm equally impressed with the quality of theirs and humbled by their dedication to such large undertakings.

Matt Kish has been possessed by the ghost of Ahab, obsessively cresting the wave of each page of Herman Melville's Moby-Dick and leaving a trail of illustrations floating in his wake. His interpretations are varied in style and form; often created on found paper, he utilizes mixed media, drawing and painting to draw forth the many layers of the novel, from mechanical diagrams of vessels and equipment to aboriginal patterning appropriate to many of the book's vivid characters.

Stephen Crowe has recently begun to unpuzzle the language and meanings of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, reassembling each page as a sort of illuminated manuscript. He combines traditional drawing with excellent use of vector graphics and photoshop skills, resulting in carefully composed and beautifully textured pages.
