James Alexander
Normally I find illustrations I'd like to post here and they end up sitting in a huge pile for about six months. But I came across these - the work of James Alexander - and was impressed and excited enough to scan and post them right away. The first eight here are from the Reader's Digest Condensed Books Spring 1953 volume. I really couldn't find anything online about Alexander, but his style here is lovely. Closer inspection reveals some problems with the work: a bit of stiffness, weird and inconsistent proportions, etc. But the precise, static rendering is impressive, and the coloring is gorgeous. I wish I could find more examples of his stuff!
