Movie Review: Phase IV

mr_phase_IV.jpgExceedingly well-made, intelligent science-fiction from an era when such a thing was rare. Saul Bass was a total visual genius. Some of the characterizations here might seem a bit cornball or one-dimensional, but in the end it works to illuminate the difference between human society and ant society. Gorgeous, creepy as hell (and remarkable not only for its time, but now) insect photography, all cleverly edited together to give the illusion of "performances" by the bugs. Fantastic electronic soundtrack as well.

Would make a great double feature with Silent Running or Dark Star. 8/10

I saw this on BBC2 in the mid to late 1980's. I think it may be the only time it had been aired on the UK.

Is there a soundtrack of the film? It has David Vorhaus who may be familiar to the Kaliedophon scene
