Walt Kelly Pic

walt_kelly.jpgPicture of Pogo cartoonist Walt Kelly from a mid-century magazine ad. Wish I could remember what the ad was for... maybe alcohol or liquor? No, wait, it might've been for fine writing instruments? No idea. How I long for the days when ink-studs actually wore a tie to their studios every morning.

This, I believe was an ad for CONCRETE. The ad was something like, "I Like my roads smooth so make my concrete yatadaa..."

Awesome!

Seriously?

Hey, that's a great photo, Jeffrey! I love the fact that Mr. Kelly's sleeves are rolled down and buttoned. How can you draw one of the best ink lines ever, and not get inky cuffs?!?!? ;)

Definitely an ad from a concrete industry trade organization. I have 1 page (the one with the Kelly pic) of a 2-page spread in Reader's Digest. No date, unfortunately, but the ad talks about "the new Interstate System," which started with an act of Congress in 1956.
