What Man?

power_cover.jpg

You remind me of a man.
What man?

So begins this novel, with a quote from the film The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer... what I'd like to know is "what man" painted the cover art for this paperback, published in 1957. Anyone?

I dunno... but I love it! What a great style - thanks for sharing this, Jeff :-)

Thanks, Leif.

It's the Ben Shahn/Warhol-esque linework that's throwing me... I'm sure I've seen it before, but I can't find any other similar examples just yet. It's a strange style.

Almost wanna say Richard Powers but that seems too easy, and not quite right.

...suggests Mitchell Hooks, whose name I'd never heard, but whose work I recognize, and which seems a close fit. He has several covers where he "draws" over a painting like the one above.

Mitchell Hooks seems to be the man.
