Bennett, At It Again

hb_mbm.jpgI was browsing the "free" pile again at the library yesterday and found yet another paperback with cover art (at left) by Harry Bennett, about whom I previously posted here.

hb_dante-farinataa.jpgIn a remarkable coincidence, his son Tom emailed me yesterday as well - and was kind enough to send along three samples of his father's work from Dante's Divine Comedy, which I had never seen. He was generous enough to allow their reproduction here, so there they are to the left and below. The illustrations are from 1966, and the originals are ink on gessoed board, measuring 24 x 30". Thanks Tom!

I recently picked up a few originals from the book Antigone, (Dutch book, circa 1975-ish) from Mr. Bennett. Amazing examples of his work. I am hunting down a copy to read as he told it to be a haunting story.
